Cabinet Kumo

The Met x Eichholtz introduces the Cabinet Kumo, an elegant storage piece that unites Japanese aesthetics with a contemporary design sensibility.

With its minimalist silhouette and charcoal brown oak veneer, this cabinet adds a touch of understated sophistication to any interior. The Cabinet Kumo brings a quiet harmony to your living space, echoing the beauty of Japanese craftsmanship.

INSPIRATION

Inspired by the fan motifs depicted on a box from Japan’s Edo period (1615–1868), the Cabinet Kumo pays tribute to the art of makie: a technique using gold and silver powder on wet lacquer, sometimes accompanied by mother-of-pearl inlay, as exemplified by the Museum’s object. The box, now in The Met collection, is a delicate expression of refined Japanese artistry, echoed here in a modern interpretation.
